South Dakota Alcohol Addiction

An increased tolerance, suffering withdrawal symptoms, and having cravings are all symptomatic of alcoholism. Other than genetics, there are many factors, for instance stress, that ascertain whether someone will develop alcoholism. This can in turn lead to other diseases and influence family members as well. However, treatment usually helps people to control it.

Is there a craving for alcohol? Craving is one of the most indicative symptoms of alcohol addiction. An addict may go to great extremes to satisfy the urges. Alcohol addicts may even consume non-beverage alcohol-based drinks that are highly dangerous. They might consume cough medicines, aftershaves, or similar liquids if they don’t get their daily drinks. These drinks can have a significant impact on their health.

However, sometimes even feeling that one needs to drink is good enough to tell if the person is addicted, especially if doing so takes precedence over other familial and economic responsibilities.

Are you unable to quit once you have started? Is one glass of wine or a bottle of beer enough for you? Will one drink lead to more until you are unable to stop? The inability to quit drinking after having a few is indicative of alcohol addiction. The addiction might be present in your life if you lack the ability to control your drinking habits.

The long-term effects of drinking on the brain are quite severe. The brain goes through physical changes that can be measured on MRI scans when a person engages in binge drinking. The synapses, which are responsible for signal transmission, are negatively affected. This dysfunction of the nervous system will remain even after the immediate behavioral effects of alcohol go away.

The Carroll Institute

310 South First Ave, Sioux Falls, SD, 57104
Overview

Located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, The Carroll Institute is a substance abuse treatment organization that offers outpatient, counseling, and transitional living programs to clients living within the Sioux Falls area. The organization began as a committee that offered referrals and education to individuals living within the community with substance abuse issues. After they gained popularity, they began a DUI program, opened a halfway house, and facilitated prevention services within the community. The facility currently offers multiple outpatient treatment services to clients, as well as transitional living options and prevention education. They changed their name to The Carroll Institute from Community Committee on Alcohol Abuse as a way of paying respects to Lynn Carroll, who played an important role in the 12-step recovery movement. The facility currently offers treatment services to clients with chemical dependency and substance abuse issues, but cannot treat dual diagnosis patients. The treatment center also does not offer medical or detox services to clients, but clients who require such care will be referred to an outside facility. An intake evaluation is done at the beginning of treatment to determine the level of care a client requires. During this assessment, it will be determined if clients are struggling with a co-occurring disorder and require a more intensive program. Clients are required to pay a one-time fee before this intake assessment can be done. The facility offers outpatient treatment programs to adults only, and this program is heavily rooted in 12-step modalities. The typical duration of stay in a program is from six to eight weeks and during this time, clients are required to complete weekly individual therapy and 18 group sessions. In addition to these requirements, clients must attend 12-step meetings and topics such as anger and grief management, relapse triggers, self-esteem, and relationship support are offered. Clients are given the option of choosing between morning or evening sessions depending on the time of convenience. Morning sessions take place from 9 am to 13 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays while the evening sessions take place from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Clients addicted to methamphetamine can benefit from the slightly more expensive outpatient program offered by the facility. This program is under the intensive outpatient track and holds thrice weekly for three hours. Clients in this program are required to complete 12-step meetings, and family counseling and these groups utilize psychoeducation and cognitive behavioral therapy. After completion of this program, clients are encouraged to remain in the sober living home for up to six months after treatment. The facility understands the importance of family involvement and as such offered a fairly comprehensive family program. Our Home

40354 210th St, Huron, SD, 57350
Overview

Since 1972, Our Home has been providing adolescent patients in local areas with highly specialized rehabilitation services to assist in the treatment of numerous mental health concerns that are common amongst teenagers. The company focuses on taking in troubled youth and providing them with access to a range of services, including an environment that promotes sobriety and healing. Parents are able to admit their teenage children to the facility for the treatment of behavioral problems, psychiatric issues, and addictions that the teen has developed. Our Home is able to provide patients with more than just housing and treatment, as they have a range of educational programs, and even health services available to patients.

Types Of Treatment Provided

The specific treatment options that a patient will be provided with when they are taken to Our Home depends on the individual situation. A patient needs to undergo a thorough examination with a consultant at the main Our Home office to help the facility understand the needs of the specific patient. Once the consultation has been conducted, a counselor will continue to develop a program that is appropriate for a particular patient who requires treatment. Treatment services that the patient may be provided with when a customized program is developed for them by a counselor at Our Home may include:Residential treatment for drug and alcohol addiction | Short-term addiction rehabilitation program | Trauma survivor services | Programs that address sexually aggressive patients | Re-socialization programs | Anger management programs

Methods of Addiction Treatment

All of the programs that are developed for the patients who are admitted to residential care at Our Home will include therapeutic services to help the patients address the root issues in their life that are contributing to their behavioral problems and substance abuse disorders. Patients will all undergo individual counseling sessions in order to target their problems at the root. Additional specialized group therapy sessions are also provided to patients who come to the center. There are different types of group therapy programs available at Our Home – the specific programs that a patient will be attending depends on their unique situation.

Amenities

A range of amenities is offered to all patients who are treated at a facility operated by Our Home. It should be noted that amenities do tend to defer from one location to another. All patients need to clean around themselves and will be allocated daily chores. Patients are offered three meals each day. On-site staff members have been employed to prepare meals for patients who are undergoing a treatment program at an Our Home facility. In addition to the CARF accreditation held by Our Home, it should be noted that the company is also a member of the South Dakota Association of Residential Youth Care Providers.

Payment Type Accepted

Parents are responsible for the payment of the services that will be provided to their teens at Our Home. The parents of a patient will first need to verify their insurance benefits should they be covered by an insurance policy. If no coverage is available for the treatment that the patient requires, the teenager’s parents will be responsible for the payment of the bill. The parents are able to discuss financial arrangements with the appropriate staff members who are employed at the Our Home facility that is most appropriate for their child.

Staff

One particular factor about the Our Home treatment facility is the fact that no information is provided on their website regarding the team of employees who provide treatment services, such as counseling, to the adolescent patients who are admitted for treatment at the company. For both adolescents in need of recovery services and their parents, this may be a very unfortunate fact. A lot of parents feel more comfortable admitting their teenage son or daughter to a rehabilitation facility when they are fully aware of the staff members – including the qualifications held by these members – that are involved in the treatment procedures provided to the patients at the facility. Any parent who feels that they would first like to know more about the staff who are involved in the treatment of adolescent patients with behavioral and addiction issues at Our Home should contact the facility directly. The administrative staff members on duty should be able to help the parent understand whether the staff holds adequate qualifications and appropriate experience.

Licence(s)

Our Home has been accredited by a national body known as CARF. This body reviews the specific treatment services that are offered by rehabilitation centers that focuses on providing treatment programs for patients with behavioral issues and addiction disorders. Being CARF-accredited means the programs offered at Our Home has been carefully developed to provide patients with the best possible chance at an effective recovery.
