Cathy’s House

515 West Liberty Street, Medina, OH, 44256
Overview

Cathy’s House is a sober living home founded in 1998 by husband and wife Randy and Chris Jarrell. This is not a treatment facility, but a ¾ house run by non-professionals. Cathy’s House doesn’t provide treatment services that are offered by some recovery centers for alcohol and drug addiction. The main purpose of this house is to help recovered drug addicts and alcoholics improve their recovery and get on the path to sobriety. For many persons with substance abuse problems a treatment in inpatient or outpatient setting isn’t enough, they need strong support once their program is over. That’s exactly what Cathy’s House offers to men and women who become their clients.

Types Of Treatment Provided

Due to the fact that Cathy’s House is not a treatment facility it doesn’t provide some addiction treatment services that are found elsewhere. This is a sober living facility where clients are still able to receive support and guidance to a healthier way of life. The admission policy dictates that clients must be at least three days sober before they enter Cathy’s House. They also need approval from the director. The second admission requires three days sobriety, 30 days from the date of the previous departure, and director approval. Clients need to meet different criteria for successful admission. For example, they must not be classified as a sexual or violent offender, must be willing to sign a release for a criminal background check, must actively participate in the AA program, must be at least 18 years old. Within three days of admittance, clients need to find a sponsor and attend 12-step meetings onsite. Basically, the purpose of all this is to show that you are actively working on your recovery. Clients have to wake up and complete some chores by 8 am. Abusive behavior is not tolerated just like any kind of sexual activity. Each resident is responsible for cleaning up after themselves, and they also need to keep their bedrooms clean. Of course, employed residents are allowed to go to work. On the other hand, if you’re unemployed, it is your responsibility to look for a job every day.

Methods of Addiction Treatment

Men and women who stay at Cathy’s House have probably completed an inpatient or outpatient addiction treatment program elsewhere. That program featured various therapies. In Cathy’s House residents are required to attend AA/NA meetings regularly, but there are no individual or group therapy sessions. Again, as you can already imagine this is due to the fact Cathy’s House is not a treatment center.

Amenities

The primary advantage of Cathy’s House is a simple regimen that doesn’t put a lot of stress on men and women who live there. Residents are allowed to go to work, cook, clean, do chores they would normally do in their own homes. Regular meetings allow residents to stay on a good path toward sobriety. What makes this place practical is that it provides a strong and secure foundation for a healthy life.

Payment Type Accepted

This sober living facility doesn’t turn people away solely for the inability to pay. Men and women of lower socioeconomic status can still benefit from staying at Cathy’s House as they’ll work out different solutions to allow you to get support for your recovery and find the best solution to pay for the time spent there. Methods of payment accepted by Cathy’s House include private pay, grant funded/rent subsidy. Of course, to get more information about payment options especially if you’re on a tight budget, all you need to do is to contact Cathy’s House, and they’ll explain everything you need to know.

Staff

Bearing in mind that Cathy’s House is not a typical treatment center, it’s more of a place where people get extra support for their recovery; there are no staff members in a manner like they are elsewhere. Names and biographies of people who help run Cathy’s House aren’t revealed. That being said, it’s still clear that Cathy’s House is a supportive, warm, and calm place where residents get much-needed support. All those benefits are a result of hard work of founders and their team to develop a place where men and women who are battling addiction problems will be able to support their road to sobriety in a healthy manner.

New Directions

30800 Chagrin Boulevard, Cleveland, OH, 44124
Overview

New Directions is a recovery center which provides quality life-changing treatment to adolescents and young adults with substance abuse problems as well as their families. They also help patients who are dealing with emotional, psychiatric, and behavioral problems and difficulties. The story of this treatment center began in 1979 when the State Plan from the Ohio Department of Health identified that youth substance abuse treatment was the most important health priority in Ohio. The plan was allocated and awarded to the first community with a goal to provide commitment, vision along with a strong treatment program that would help adolescents and young adults with mental health problems and addiction. That’s when New Directions was born. The treatment center provides both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs.

Types Of Treatment Provided

New Directions provides both residential and outpatient treatment programs. Their patients are usually high school students so they made a lot of effort to develop a unique program that would help them recover and learn at the same time. To culture a learning environment each patient gets a laptop they can use to study. Length of the residential program is about 60 days, but some patients complete their treatment in 45 days. It all comes to down the client, how much they work on recovery and other factors of course. Residential treatment is also gender-specific, i.e. girls and boys are separated during counseling and other parts of the program as well. In addition to residential treatment, New Directions provides non-intensive outpatient program and intensive outpatient program. Outpatient programs are suitable for patients whose addiction, mental health, emotional, or behavioral problems are not severe enough to require residential treatment. These programs are also practical for adolescents who are showing signs of addiction and the above-mentioned problems, but also for patients who have completed residential treatment and need additional support for a more stable recovery.

Methods of Addiction Treatment

Therapy is the vital segment of every strong treatment program, particularly when adolescents are involved. The goal of therapy is to help patients resolve their emotional and mental health problems, but also to enable them to cope with different situations in a healthy manner. That way, it’s easier to recover from substance abuse as well. Individual and group therapy sessions are provided. Therapies used at New Directions include:Cognitive behavioral therapy | Family systems therapy | Trauma therapy | Strengths-based therapy | Reality therapy | Motivational enhancement therapy

Amenities

Treatment services provided by New Directions come with different amenities, such as:Psychiatric assessment and medication management | Case management | Home-based therapy/recovery support services | Parent education program | Recovery housing | Recovery app and coaching | Crisis intervention | Individualized treatment Throughthe above-mentioned amenities, the treatment center supports clients and their families to create a healthy environment for a better recovery. To learn more about other amenities, they offer you can always contact New Directions.

Payment Type Accepted

Various payment options are available in order to make it easier for adolescents to get much-needed treatment at New Directions. The treatment center provides payment assistance, and its services are covered by some private insurances, Medicaid. Self-pay options are also available along with state financial aid. If patients need help paying for treatment at New Directions they can apply with Prosper HealthCare Lending. In other words, the treatment center introduced different payment methods to make sure everyone who needs help is able to use their services for a healthy recovery. Bearing in mind today’s lifestyle is hectic they also arranged online bill pay.

Staff

Staff members at New Directions are well-educated, highly knowledgeable, and have vast experience in working with adolescents and young adults with mental health, behavioral, and emotional problems and addiction to drug and alcohol. Teachers who work at New Directions are employees of the nearby Orange High School. They work together with native schools of each patient to make sure they stay on pace academically. That way, students don’t miss out on lessons and exams thus finding it easier to adjust to “regular” school after the treatment. Although informative, the official website doesn’t provide information about biographies and roles of each team member. They just have a page where the names of the staff are listed. For example:Mike Matoney – chief executive officer | Alice Iden – chief operating officer | Dr. Phil Fragassi – medical director | Sue Tager – director of performance improvement and outpatient services | Harold Abraham | Richard Bain | Michelle Cimperman | Melissa D. Cole | Mary Ganske | Ryan Miday | Linda Perlic

Townhall 2

155 N Water St, Kent, OH, 44240
Overview

Townhall 2, located in Kent, Ohio, is a behavioral health organization that began as a crisis line for individuals in distress at KSU (Kent State University) by two hippie-era initiatives. A couple of years later, a drop-in center was created by a group of volunteers for individuals in crisis to visit and feel safe. After some time, the first and second group decided to merge and become “Townhall 2” in 1971. Since then, the behavioral health organization has added multiple services in addition to its pioneer programs. Some of these services include HIV testing and counseling, treatment services for crime victims, and medical diagnosis. The organization later joined the Portage County’s drug treatment center in 1997 with the aim of expanding its services. Now, the facility offers a gender-specific residential program and a co-ed outpatient treatment program. The facility is big on creating campaigns and advocating against the use of alcohol and drugs. The treatment technique used for clients in recovery includes evidence-based treatment modalities. The foundation technique used for all treatment at T2 is Motivational Interviewing (MI). Other modalities used include cognitive behavioral therapy and behavior modification techniques. Clients are not required to attend 12-step meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous, but it is encouraged. The first stage of treatment at the facility begins with an initial evaluation, from which the intake counselor will be able to determine the kind of care required and if need be, appropriate referrals to be made. At this time, the facility offers three levels of care to individuals seeking treatment at the facility. The residential treatment program, outpatient treatment program, and an intensive outpatient treatment program are available in the facility. The average duration of stay at Horizon House (the residential treatment program) is 90 days and clients are offered a combination of education, therapy, and other extra services. During the week, lights out is at 11 pm but is at midnight on weekends. Clients in the outpatient track are required to attend both individual and group therapy as determined by their treatment plan. The intensive outpatient track required clients to complete three hours of therapy daily, thrice weekly. After some time and as client progresses in treatment, the intensity of the program reduces to two-hour therapy sessions weekly, which typically lasts for 12 weeks.
